FERRARI 296 GTO: RETURN OF THE V6 FERRARIS??

A few posts ago, I talked about the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, if you had read that blog till the end, you must be remembering about the statement a high-ranking Ferrari official made and ultimately ended up contradicting it.

I don’t remember his exact words, but he said “Ferrari will never electrify their cars” which means that according to him, Ferrari was never going to make a hybrid or an electric car.

When the Ferrari sf90 Stradale came out, my first thought was, “well that statement didn’t age well”.

Anyways, the SF90 came out and we all got an idea of what Ferrari is capable of if they decide to make hybrid cars, it’s one of my favorite cars out there today in the market, we have 2 SF90 Stradale in India as well, one in Chennai and one in Mumbai.

But the thing with the SF90 is that it’s one of the most expensive cars in today’s market, it will cost you anywhere between 0.5 to 0.6 million dollars before you even go into the options of specing your car according to your taste.

So, Ferrari thought of doing something for the enthusiasts and the customers who wanted an SF90, but couldn’t afford to get one, just because it’s too damn expensive, so now they have made the Ferrari 296 GTB.

Yes, the GTB tag is back after a long time, and now it’s in a twin-turbo v6 hybrid Supercar. The last time the GTB tag was given to a car was 2015 and the car had a twin-turbo V8 engine, yes, I am talking about the 488 GTB, and before that the GTB tag was on a car that had a naturally aspirated V12, the 599 GTB, it was unarguably one of the best cars of its time.

So, if you notice carefully, the GTB tag has gone from being on most elite Ferrari cars to one of the most affordable Ferraris, nothing wrong with that, but it’s a pattern that I have noticed, and coincidentally as the GTB tag proceeded from the 599 GTB, the engine size went down, from V12 to V8 to V6.

Well, in appearance, the 296 GTB is very close to the SF90, it’s kind of like the younger sibling of the SF90. In terms of specifications as well, it’s mind-boggling, even though it has a v6 engine, coupled with the hybrid, the car makes about 819 horsepower, yes you read that right, to give you a perspective of how huge that number is, it’s 4 more than the flagship Lamborghini you can buy at that moment, the Lamborghini sian, I know it’s very surprising but wait there is more, it has just 1 horsepower less than the Aston Martin Vulcan, this is very hard to digest, but we are in an age where even these numbers are rookie numbers and there seems to be no control, there are cars in the market with over 2000 horsepower as well, the sky is the limit nowadays.

We will discuss the 296 in detail in another post and will compare it with its competitors. So, stay tuned for that, it’s going to be an awesome one.

So, everyone, that will be all for this time, I trust you liked this one, if you did then do share it with your friends and do consider subscribing to Motordrift for more such content in the future.

Till then

Ciao
