Fast and furious, considered to be one of the best franchises created for car guys, I know this statement is quite controversial but is what most of the people on the internet say.
Now, the day I am writing this blog, it’s been 20 years since they rolled out the first movie of the series, which is fast and furious 1, in the year 2001. Nobody could have predicted it that time, that this movie franchise would become so big a few years later, but here we are with the 10th part of the movie coming soon.
It sometimes feels crazy to think how much it and its fanbase has grown over the years, but there is some special kind of movies that just do the magic, this is one of them.
If I talk about myself, I have watched fast and furious till the 8th part, and according to me, the movement Dwayne johnson aka the rock entered this franchise, fast and furious became more of a good guy vs bad guy thing than a movie which was actually made about cars.
This means that onwards the 5th part, everything changed, cars took a back seat and super fictional stories came to the spotlight.
Anyways, doesn’t matter if you hate it or love it, this movie franchise will always have a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts, for it is as well, just because of the first 3 parts.
If we talk about probably one of the most popular segments of Cars, JDMs, they simply weren’t as famous before, especially the one from the 90s, let alone the 2000 ones. Yes, I get it Initial D had its own huge role to play in popularising JDMs but dude the rate at which the love for JDMs increased after fast and furious, I have never seen something like that before.
The Toyota Supra became the ultimate JDM for many, people really started thinking it comes with 1000 horsepower which has become an overused meme template now. The Famous “Is that a Supra?” question probably is a result of fast and furious.
Another Car that gained as much respect and love if not more as the Supra was the R34, people forgot what a great car the R33 was, which is kinda sad but anyways the R34 became yet another JDM god, their prices went up and suddenly they became the car that everyone wanted.
Then gems like the Mitsubishi Lancer evolution also got recognition, it didn’t go over the board which is really good, it got and still gets the respect it deserved, I love the Evo, so much so that I want a 2001 Evo 7 for myself.
The Drag racing culture in America was there but after fast and furious everything became all about that quarter-mile timing, some people really started to live their lives one-quarter mile at a time.
And even if we put this all aside, it brought us entertainment, which is the main purpose of a movie, it’s a movie which if you watch today, you won’t feel that your time was wasted.
After writing this, I am probably going to watch fast and furious myself, you all also give it a watch and tell me in the comments below, how was it.
So, everyone, that will be all for this time, I trust you liked this one, if you did then do share it with your friends and do consider subscribing to Motordrift for more such content in the future.
